New Photo Series Shows Inner Beauty Of Breastfeeding

Photo series "Beautiful Goddesses" shows how women feel powerful and celestial while breastfeeding

Breastfeeding really is one of the most natrual acts of bonding between a mother and child. At it's most basic, breastfeeding is a mother feeding her child. And yet even in 2015, many women still feel embarrassed or are harassed for breast-feeding in public. The act comes with a lot of stigma and double standards (breast is best, but don’t let anyone see) and it seems like every other day there is a news story about a woman who was treated poorly for breastfeeding in public or a blog post wondering why breastfeeding moms can't just cover up.

Just like many other women, Ivette Ivens felt the disdain and ignorance from others while trying to breastfeed her child in public.

"I've been through the tough times when it hurt, leaked... people weren't happy with me nursing,” Ivens told Refinery29.

Rather than be shamed and embarrassed by other people’s perceptions, she set out to show people how mothers feel when they breastfeed.

"I wanted to inspire other moms and show people the divine side of breastfeeding."

Ivens created a photo series called Breastfeeding Goddesses, which showcases mothers breastfeeding in flower crowns and sweeping skirts with stunning backgrounds to create powerful and almost angelic images.

"It's quite popular now to show the raw side of motherhood, something that we see every day. I decided to embrace what's invisible: feelings. I frame the mother's natural beauty, surrounded by her inner bliss... I accent her confidence, strength, and self-love, because I strongly believe that if you love yourself, you're able to spread the feeling and do beautiful things."

Ivens series is absolutely stunning and help to show the act of breastfeeding as a natural, beautifu lthing that a mother can do for her children. Take a look at the rest of the stunning images from the series.

Have you ever faced any negative backlash while breastfeeding?
