Add it to the list: Donald Trump called a woman “disgusting” for breastfeeding and he’s not denying it.
Donald Trump is going to be fired from his presidential race before it even gets going. In fact, his ship probably sailed after he went on his first of many anti-Mexican tirades last month. He really doesn’t like Mexicans. Worry not though, his distaste is for more than just Mexican immigrants; he appears to hate babies and everything about them, too.
In what can only be called an epic tale of righteous indignation, Mr. Trump refuses to apologize for comments he made back in 2011 when he called a mom who wanted to breastfeed, “disgusting.”
Lawyer Elizabeth Beck had been questioning Trump during a disposition when she requested a pre-negotiated medical break and Trump refused. Beck then told him the matter was urgent and showed him the breast pump at which point he pretty much lost his mind.
Beck spoke to CNN earlier this week and says Trump’s response was nothing short of “an absolute meltdown.”
“[Trump] got up, his face got red, he shook his finger at me and he screamed, ‘You’re disgusting, you’re disgusting,’ and he ran out of there,” she told CNN.
In classic Trump style, he doesn’t even try to deny it. In the wake of the news surfacing in the New York Times this week, Trump, who you’d think couldn’t possibly make things worse for himself than they already are, somehow managed to. He took to Twitter to tell his side.
She “wanted to breast pump in front of me,” he claimed. As if. And then, to insult the woman just a little bit more he said she, “did a terrible job against me, she lost (I even got legal fees). I loved beating her, she was easy.” Class act.
All the woman wanted was a break from the disposition to pump milk for her three-month-old. That’s it. That’s all. Only Donald Trump could turn it into so much more than that.
Of course social media is up in arms over the comment which is, for lack of a better word, disgusting. But we need only consider the source. This is a man, who, as Babble pointed out, gave himself kudos for not telling off a crying baby.
“That baby was driving me crazy,” he said. “I didn’t get angry once because I didn’t want to insult the parents for not taking the kid out of the room!” Babble reported. “I have great restraint.” Clearly.
But we are talking about Mr. Trump, here, so we probably shouldn’t be surprised. We should be surprised though, that he is actually a candidate for U.S. presidency.
The sad reality is that while these comments are certainly horrible, there is a large contingent of the population who thinks breastfeeding is a private matter, never to be spoken of, never to be seen. Clearly, people still need to be educated and breastfeeding needs to be shown for what it truly is: a perfectly natural thing for women to do when and wherever they want.
Hopefully what comes out of his latest scandal is that the man who has proven himself to be ignorant time and time again will become the platform on which such beliefs are confronted widely, once and for all.
