Baby Names Inspired By Classic Movies

How has old Hollywood inspired today's baby names? We round up 10 timeless names from classic films

The classic films and the names that are inspired from them

There's no shame or blame in taking inspiration for your child's name from the movies. But even better than Bella and Edward (let it go, all of us) is Jack and Rose OR, more realistically, classic Hollywood films.

So because I look every day for an opportunity to tell people to name their baby Norma Desmond, I jumped at the chance to scour my movie collection and give you 10 new choices below. I'm ready for my close-up. (Yes, me. Me, who made this list for you.)

1. Atticus
I'm sure of few things like I am of this: Gregory Peck as Atticus Fitch may be one of the greatest movie characters of all time (who originated from a book -- I know that). Your son or daughter deserves the same. Or at least take them to see the movie.

2. Audrey
Yes, I mentioned "classic films,"  but we wouldn't do Old Hollywood justice without a shout-out to Audrey Hepburn, and the name that somehow seems timeless despite being centuries old.

3. Margo
If you opt to name your daughter after Bette Davis' unforgettable Margo Channing (from All About Eve), you are legally obligated to teach her to say, "Fasten your seatbelts -- it's going to be a bumpy night."

4. Rhett
Clark Gable's Rhett Butler may have been a controversial character (and that is the understatement of the year), but his character's southern name can hold its own when paired with something a little more 2013-centric. Just teach your son not to be anything like Rhett at all.

5. Scarlett
Meanwhile, if you don't name your daughter Vivien after the actress who brought Gone With the Wind's Scarlett O'Hara to life, you could name her Scarlett, and again, teach her not to be anything like anyone in GWTW at all. (Well, maybe Melanie.)

6. Bennett
The first Pride and Prejudice film came out in 1940 and starred Lawrence Oliver. Therefore, it's a sign: if you already like Jane Austen, you can name a boy or girl after one of the strongest female characters ever.

7. Eliza
But back to Audrey Hepburn: thanks to starring in My Fair Lady, she brought Eliza Doolittle to the masses. A shortform of Elizabeth, you and "Eliza" can teach your daughter never to change for any guy ever -- professor or not.

8. Norma
Meanwhile, Gloria Swanson's tragic Norma Desmond will reign forever in our hearts and on our minds, and if she doesn't (or hasn't), we've failed horribly as a species. Of course, your child shouldn't grow up to be like Norma in any way, but she could grow up to be someone who directs a film that exceeds even Sunset Boulevard.

9. Foster
Citizen Kane was an unforgettable character and an even more important film (obviously), and since naming your baby "Rosebud" is ill-advised at best, you can always borrow from Charles' full name, and take his middle name: Foster. (Dun, dun, dun.)

10. James
Two words: Bond. James Bond. (I mean, three words technically. But two words even more technically.)
