Get Adventurous With The Family This May Long Weekend

Just because you have kids doesn’t mean you can’t get in touch with your adventurous side for the long weekend

We’re heading into what can only be called mid-May and for us Canadians, that means long weekends are on the horizon. It’s so much more than just an extra day off work—the May 2-4 weekend is a nation-wide announcement that summer is on its way.

So why not round up the family, get off the couch and enjoy the great outdoors?

There is so much to do and see across our beautiful country. Here are a few ideas to get you started on planning your outdoor adventure.

If you are a new family or have a new baby in your midst, you may think that “adventure” may be a thing of the past. Not true! Why not strap on your baby carrier of choice and head out the Bruce Trail (runs from Tobermory to Niagara) and go on a hike with the family.

Are your kids a bit older? The Ottawa Valley has great white water rafting at the River Run Rafting and Wilderness Resort—they offer a family style rafting trip that’s perfect for the whole family.

British Colombia

Skip Netflix on the long weekend and get the real deal with the Vancouver Whale Watch. If you’re in the Vancouver area, pack up the kids and don’t miss this once in a lifetime chance to see these majestic creatures in action.

If you’re on the hunt for beautiful scenery, look no further than Winnipeg’s The Forks—where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet. With lots to do for the long weekend, The Forks will keep the whole family busy no matter what they’re interested in.

Take the petting zoo to an adventurous level with the Wildlife Discovery Tour in Jasper, Alberta. This is by far the best place in the Canadian Rockies to see the amazing wildlife. A knowledgeable guide will take you and the family on a tour in search of moose, elk, mountain sheep, loon, eagles and even bears!

Nova Scotia

If you and your family are on the east coast, head over to the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. With a huge array of activities—kayaking, whale watching, hiking—the Cabot Trail provides the perfect recipe for a great May Long Weekend.
